Journey to the Rainforest!!!!

Hey guys I'm back!!!! So in this first post I'm just going to go over the travel day and an overview of what I'll be doing in Costa Rica. There were about 20 students and two professors all going to the La Suerte Biological Field Station so that definitely made for some chaos! We drove two hours to the Charlotte Airport and then had a 4.5 hour flight to San Jose!!! I was so ready for this flight, I had The Eras Tour downloaded and the live-action Cinderella so I was travelling in style. Once we landed we met the owner of the field station and were off on a bus again! Now, disclaimer if you get motion sickness easily then stop reading NOW!!! So we had about a three hour drive from the airport to the field station and there was no time for lunch until we were about two hours into the drive so I was relying on my Nutrigrain bars and iron will to get me through. For those that have travelled with me before you know that while I may not get motion sickness very easily I definitely throw up very easily. There were so many turns and stops and starts (we're in the mountains at this point) that I was really starting to not feel well. Long story short, I may have thrown up a bit but I did it like the lady I am. Of course as I'm doing this we're pulling up to the convenience store where we could load up on snacks and take a break.

I felt so nauseous but I got to speak Spanish again!!!! It felt so good to get out of the bus and also speak Spanish since I haven't been in a Spanish-speaking country since this summer. We loaded up on snacks and were off to the station! Once we got there it was so dark and we were so tired but we got all settled in and I was able to get some dinner in. I don't think I've fallen asleep faster since I knew the quicker I fell asleep the quicker tomorrow would come and I would feel better physically. DAY ONE DONE!!!!!

So just another quick overview of what I'm doing in Costa Rica. I'm taking a Field Ecology course where we spent spring break in the rainforest applying everything we learned about ecology and answering research questions in our respective groups. I am in the mammal group so we will be measuring the biodiversity of mammals in the area (which I'll go into more later).

Onto the next day!!!!
